http://www.overheardinnewyork.com/archives/019803.html Older hipster film snob: I am trying to watch all those movies they made about the Iraq War in the last few years. I just finished rendition and I thought Stop Loss was this really poignant picture of the way soldiers have dealt with the renewed tours. Friend: Oh, yeah? You know what movie looks really good? I think it is still in theaters. Dance Flick.

My exchange fic posted this morning for twi_exchange this morning and Omg, I'm so in awe.
It's 6 chapters, and it's Vamps! Couldn't ask for anything more - but then it turned out to be so brilliantly written I had to sit here and read the whole thing while my coffee went cold.
I need to catch up on the other fics/art there, but for now I need to link to mine. Because it's awesome.

Notes.
Finally got Harry Potter tickets, but am disappointed in them. We sat on it too long and they filled the first theater I guess so we got one of the other ones. I'm not really that picky about the technical aspect but I have never once had as much fun at a midnight showing of a movie in one of the overflow theaters as I did in the first, because those are the most enthusiastic fans. My friend who loves the movies but never read the books is going with me and it doesn't bother her as much, but it does me. A lot. I mean you'd think everyone at a midnight show would be enthusiastic, but it's like so many of them just aren't, which is disappointing. I guess I'm just kind of sad about this, as I think Half-Blood Prince is the most emotional of the series (well...honestly the last may be moreso, but it could just be because how can the end of something so monumental not be?), and I wish I could share that with a theater full of people who feel that. But I'm not sure I will in this case.
Saw Bruno. Personally I thought it was better than Borat, although it could be this is because it took me ages to see Borat because I had no movie theater access at the time so I had heard, uh, everything that happened in the movie already. I mean it had a lot of the same things going for it, but I thought that this one was kind of the Hot Fuzz to Sacha Baron Cohen's Shaun of the Dead. It was more mature...not when it comes to the humor itself of course but in structure. I think it resembled more of a feature than a collection of sketches than Borat did; I think Bruno himself is a more likeable character than Borat, and I personally thought that the, uh, social issues it tackled were greater. I guess that's strictly a matter of opinion, but for me anyway, and I thought that when it tried to make and illustrate points it did them with greater clarity. The last ten minutes were unspeakably amazing.
I think that Sacha Baron Cohen is as brilliant a satirist as Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert, whose talents are almost impossible to live up to; it seems that few can make you laugh and make a point at the same time very well. ( More and pretty much spoiler-free. )
I want to add here, just to be clear, that I think that Borat is a masterpiece of its own. But I just think that Bruno is better, smarter, faster, stronger.
And in other topics, before the movie there was a Gamer trailer. To be honest with you, I am actually more excited about this movie than I am about any movie this summer. I'm not even exaggerating. I'm measuring this based on the fact that whenever I see the trailer I feel a bizarrely unexpected excitement. I cannot wait. This is the first time I've seen it attached to a movie so it feels kind of great to know I didn't just imagine it one night sitting at my computer.
On a related note, the best part of Bruno was a shot where there was a Dexter billboard behind him. Yeah...I noticed. I find it amazing actually that I can apparently sense Dexter as much as see it; I suspect it has something to do with being so familiar with the promos and ads that I can recognize them easily without having to figure out where I know it from. This was my favorite part of the movie.
And that big Dexter ad in Hancock was likewise my favorite part of that movie.
I love how even when I'm going to the movies to see Bruno the experience still manages to be infused with Dexter Morgan. But I didn't make this up...it was there! I saw it! I'm only saying.

Gnaseljlsfkdjl. After being magically all better yesterday, my back hates me again today. Am oldest 27 year old EVAR. Plan for the weekend: guzzle emergen-c for con crud prevention and spend as much time as possible lying on flat surfaces. This needs to be over before I spend next Wednesday and Thursday lifting heavy boxes.
On the plus side, good people were rewarded for good work today.
As long as I'm posting about nothing, here's some content that may be more relevant to your interests. My schedule for this coming week:
- M-W: Work. - W PM: Load as much as possible of the con stuff stored at my apartment into the car (I get packages all the time! It's so exciting!). Head to SF. Enjoy the evening traffic. Drop everything at the hotel. Go home. Load whatever's left into the car. - Th AM: Head to SF. Enjoy the morning traffic. Dive into prep! - Th-Tu PM: KICK AZ. - Tu PM: Go home. :'-( - W: Work. Or more likely, "work" with a lot of caffeine.
Yay! As for my schedule at the con, that's also something I need to hammer out this weekend. Mostly, it will involve making myself useful wherever I can, and SpellCast.
ETA: AHAHAHAHAHADYING. OH DANRAD.

i. Rec me your favorite SPN stories written in the past year! Or link me your favorite recs lists. I have a lot to catch up on.
ii. Or tell me what music you are listening to right now, since we are talking about music. Is there anything better than driving on empty country roads in the summertime with the windows down and the radio cranked up? No. No, I don't think there is.
iii. Or tell me what I should write now that my remix is off to beta: Poll #1428002
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: AllWhich cliche_bingo story should I write today? I guess I feel like writing about the ladies today.
iv. Wow, the reactions on my flist are making me really glad I don't watch Torchwood anymore. :(

I'm writing fic tonight. May need a fast beta once I finish working on Day!Change at Vas. My normal beta hasn't seen CoE and while she knows what's happening, I'm not spoiling her more than that.

So I routinely search eBay for things related to Dexter. I suppose this is as a result of how much I had to stalk eBay in order to get the Shepard Fairey poster. It became a force of habit and a way to pass dull hours in classes I had to attend but would have spent the time writing song lyrics out on a piece of paper if not for modern technology (people try to assert that if not for my computer I would be listening in these cases, but it isn't true, and I have an entire notebook full of Beatles lyrics, drawings of landscapes in which I draw the thing in question by writing the word in that shape [imagine here writing the word "cactus" over and over again in the shape of a cactus] and ways to effectively begin and end my last Nanowrimo thing to prove it).
As of this search, however, an entirely new and evil Dexter-related item has come to eBay, en masse: prop and costume cards.
I don't own any of these, but being the sentimental person that I am, wish I had never figured out what they are, because I find them creepy and yet at the same time I want to own them all. Here, spend $50 on a knuckle-length piece of fabric that used to be part of a costume that a character you love on a TV show wore. Usually I can resist the temptation to purchase anything because I have so many options, but of course just so the universe could defy me yet again, I discovered a costume card of Dexter's kill outfit. It doesn't help that, though the red piece of material next to it is obviously not, I keep convincing myself that it is in fact a piece of the same outfit with fake blood on it. (The fabric looks different...yeah, I analayzed that shit for a while. I actually imagine it comes from a different costume piece...which means...two costume pieces!)
I am quite certain that whoever came up with Dexter trading/costume/prop cards has it out for me. It seems like such a weird thing to have these for, since it's not exactly Harry Potter in popularity. Yes, it is amazing in all possible ways, but the downside of existing on premium television is that many people don't know that. Furthermore, most shows that do exist on premium television don't entertain the kind of obsessive following that would merit these things, and by these things I mean, people willing to shell out a significant amount of money for a tiny piece of material, and in most cases, not because they are collectors, but because they secretly and deep down inside want to touch it. (This is why I find these creepy and intriguing in general...because even if there are people out there who buy them for the sake of having collectible memorabilia, I think their genesis is rooted in the desire people have to stalk their favorite television shows in some way.) It seems like such a way to capture the diehard fan's (my) vulnerabilities. Since the obsessive fans are assuredly not limited to me it is smart, but also cruel, and somewhat more cruel since while indeed I am quite convinced I am not alone here, I do know that there certainly aren't enough of us for me to take this anything but personally.
In short, you motherfuckers! Why did you even do this? I was so much happier before I discovered this.
I just wish that whatever asshole out there did this to me would be punished severely. Fucking capitalism. This would never happen without our dependence on a capitalistic system. Actually it might, but I choose to blame that right now.

So I was all 'not gonna post again today!' because I have been a bit spammy but I HAVE to post this before I go to bed because it's SUPER EXCITING!!! Not long after I posted my Big Bang, pennyplainknits asked me if she could do an audiofic of it. And of course I said OMFG YES PLEASE because damn, I LOVE audiofic and to have my Big Bang recorded would be AWESOME. And she finished it and just posted it and you can find it HERE. So go download it and tell her how awesome she is for doing that! SHE EVEN DID DALEK VOICES! No one has ever recorded any of my fic before so it fills me with GLEE! And I wish my internet would HURRY THE FUCK UP and finish downloading it so I could listen too...
Coming up tomorrow: the comment fic meme I have been promising for the past age! Here's hoping people take part. Y'ALL HAVE TO TAKE PART or I might cry. *L*

You mean you didn't grow up on a farm? Barber: No. Old man: You didn't have livestock? Barber: Yes. We had pigs and chickens. Old man: Pigs are great. But pig urine smells awful. And chickens are stupid. They will lie back with their mouths open and drown in a rainstorm. Barber: Yes, chickens are stupid. I named them after my sisters.
